This page explains how SmartToolsHub researches, writes, checks, and updates its calculators and guides. The short version: I'm one independent developer, not a newsroom or a financial firm, and this page is here so you know exactly what that means for the numbers you're reading.
Numbers used in calculators and guides come from primary, official sources wherever possible — the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the IRS, state Departments of Revenue, and other government or widely-used data providers like Zillow's published research data. Where a page cites a figure, I link directly to the source it came from.
Before a figure is published, I check it against the original source directly — not against a summary written by someone else. If a number can't be verified against an official or clearly reliable source, it's left out rather than estimated or guessed. Pages that use sourced data show a "last reviewed" date so you can see how current it is.
Tax brackets, mortgage rates, and cost-of-living figures change over time. Pages with data that can go stale are reviewed periodically and updated when a newer official figure is published. If you spot something that looks outdated or wrong, tell me through the contact page — real corrections get made, not ignored.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, including through the Amazon Associates Program and CJ Affiliate. That relationship never decides what gets written or what a calculator outputs — the math and the guides are the same whether or not you ever click a link. I use AI tools to help draft, organize, and format content, and to help with the site's code. AI does not decide what data goes into a calculator or guide — every factual claim and number is checked against a real source before it's published, the way described above.
